Summer 2018 Is Here: Kid’s Stuff in Oxfordshire

What are we going to do with the kids this summer?

Every year the same, summer comes, we hope for sunshine and warm weather, sometimes we win, sometimes we lose, but every year all sorts of organisations put on events for the family, focusing on kids and the stuff they enjoy doing.
Here’s three of our top suggestions for kid friendly activities during summer 2018 across Oxfordshire.

Creation Station Family Workshops (27th July, 19th August, 24th August)

Newbury Corn Exchange, on the Market Place at Newbury hosts a series of arts and crafts classes aimed at kids from 18 months to about 11 years of age. The whole family can get involved giving kids the chance to shine individually as well as working together in teams.

Your kids will learn new activities without you needing to do any preparation or cleaning up and perhaps they’ll pick up new activities that they’ll want to continue in the future.

The first ticket costs £8.50 and additional tickets are just £5.00 per child. Information and bookings here: https://cornexchangenew.com/event/creation-station-family-fun

The Big Feastival 24-26th August

The Big Feastival might be the highlight of the summer. Run by Alex James, formerly of Blur. Alex now runs a farm in the Cotswold countryside, not far from Chipping Norton. As you might imagine from the name this is centred around food but is so much more! There’s celebrity chefs cooking on stage, street food including Thai, Jamaican, pizza, hotdogs and loads more. There’s also plenty of opportunities for drinking – try to not drive – there’s limited parking spaces and very good public transport connections, but there’s adult drinks in the form of gins, champagne, cider and, yes, plenty for the kids to enjoy as well.

The kids will enjoy activities such as basket weaving, head dress making and an area featuring hosts of small animals that the kids can interact with. Plenty of stroking and petting allowed!
You’ll be able to enjoy traditional style fairground attractions, all sorts of music, including DJ sessions including sets by Alex James himself.

The Big Feastival takes place over the August Bank holiday. There’s camping and weekend tickets as well as day entry. Kids get free entry with adults. Information and tickets can be found here: https://thebigfeastival.com/tickets

Oxford Spy Mission Treasure Trail (Anytime)

Here’s a great idea for kids who want to have a little bit of adventure – a chance to explore Oxford on a spying mission and, if they do well, save the world and win a prize!

This is a self-guided, spy-themed walking trail around Oxford City and Meadow. The missions take up to about two and a half hours and will cover just under three miles. You can download the trail mission or have a hard copy sent out to your home. There’s several mission formats with prices from £6.99. If your junior spies get stuck, then they can get clues by text message so there’s no excuses for disappointment.

Great for families with kids from six and up, this is a great family activity. You can order your mission pack from here: https://www.treasuretrails.co.uk/what-to-do/oxfordshire/ oxford?

Have a great summer in Oxfordshire, hopefully these ideas will keep the kids amused and excited which can only mean a better time for the grownups!
